Vico Persson is a visual artist whose practice centers on themes of transformation, resilience, and renewal, working primarily with found and recycled materials.
After several years of collaborative work, Vico returned to his solo practice in 2022. Since then, his art has been exhibited in numerous art centres and museums across the Netherlands and internationally.
At the core of Vico’s process is a free and intuitive exploration of materials, merging imagination with experimentation. In a world shaped by crisis, imbalance, and excess, his work reclaims a sense of melancholic playfulness, inviting viewers to find meaning in what has been overlooked or discarded. Through installations, sculptures, collages, and paintings, he explores the possibility of change, both in a material manner, and emotionally.
Vico mostly works with recycled materials; food packaging, used plastic bottles, metal, discarded wood, etc, often combined with clay and paint. Each piece is allowed to evolve organically, taking on abstract forms that aim to carry their own presence.
Beyond material transformation, Vico’s practice also reflects on emotional states -- navigating themes of human connection, solitude, and the social structures that shape our inner lives. Rooted in care, reinvention, and the poetry of the overlooked, his practice reimagines the discarded as something alive, enduring, and full of latent possibility.
