Kleur als een magneet.
Mijn werk ontstaat uit nieuwsgierigheid. Wat gebeurt er als vorm en kleur het licht uitdagen? In mijn 3D-kunstwerken vangt elk stukje hout het licht anders. De verschillende vlakken en kleuren lijken zelfs met elkaar te spelen, vooral als je zelf in beweging komt of als het licht verandert. Deze magie zet mij in beweging voor nieuwe vormen en kleurcombinaties.
Reflecting colours. (Eerste serie)
In deze serie heb ik mij laten inspireren door natuurtinten. De kleurenpracht van een rijpe mango, het verenkleed van de ijsvogel of een bladerdek in de herfst zorgen voor prachtige combinaties. Op verschillende vlakken heb ik kleurverlopen geschilderd.
De basis is meestal wit en langzamerhand voeg ik een of meerdere kleuren toe die in intentie toenemen. Door vanuit verschillende hoeken te kijken veranderen de kleuren. Bij een vooraanzicht zijn subtiele schaduwen en reflecties waar te nemen.
Colour in conversation. (Tweede serie)
In deze serie ga ik op zoek naar de communicatie tussen kleuren. Ze weten elkaar de lichtinval te versterken of ze veranderen door de weerspiegeling.
Kleine blokjes massief hout heb ik schuin afgezaagd, waardoor er twee vlakjes ontstaan die ik in een kleurverloop heb geschilderd. De kleuren die ik heb gebruikt zijn wederom terug te vinden in de natuur. Hier heb ik gekeken naar de koudste gebieden op aarde zoals de noordpool. De kleuren geven vaak een mysterieuze kleur door de weerkaatsing van de zon op het ijs (Arctic Sunset). In de binnenkant van schelpen zijn mooie parelmoertinten te zien (Mother of pearl).
Kleurkaarten.
Begin dit jaar schonk de firma Gamma mij 1,5 miljoen kleurkaarten. Dit was voor mij een mooie kans om groter te denken. Naast het beschilderen van houten blokjes heb ik nu de ruimte om te experimenteren met prachtige kleursamples. Colour as a magnet.
My work is born from curiosity. What happens when form and colour challenge the light? In my 3D artworks, each piece of wood catches the light differently. Surfaces and colours seem to interact, especially when you move around them or when the light shifts. This sense of magic keeps me searching for new shapes and colour combinations.
Reflecting colours. (First series)
In this series I was inspired by the colours of nature. The richness of a ripe mango, the plumage of a kingfisher, or a canopy of autumn leaves all create striking combinations. On different surfaces I painted soft gradients, starting from white and gradually building in one or more colours. As you shift your perspective, the colours change. From the front, subtle shadows and reflections appear, inviting you to look closer.
Colour in conversation. (Second series)
Here I explore the dialogue between colours—how they can amplify the light, or transform through reflection. Small blocks of solid wood are cut at an angle, creating two planes that I paint in gradients. Again, my palette comes from nature. I looked to the coldest regions on earth: the Arctic, where sunlight reflecting on ice creates mysterious tones (Arctic Sunset), and the iridescence found inside shells (Mother of Pearl).
Colour samples.
Earlier this year the hardware store Gamma donated 1.5 million colour samples to me. This gift challenged me to think on a larger scale. Alongside my painted wooden blocks, I can now experiment with these beautiful samples in new ways.
