Ivan Morison - The Argonauts

The Argonauts is a public artwork by British artist Ivan Morison. The installation consists of monumental sculptures that introduce strange, bodily forms into the post-industrial landscape of NDSM. As a collection of outsiders, The Argonauts exist somewhere between body and landscape, between concealment and transformation. The Argonauts are made from locally sourced agricultural materials and covered with a hardened mineral skin. The sculptures remain in a process of becoming. An exterior that suggests permanence encloses a slowly decaying agricultural core. The gesture is both playful and confrontational: an agricultural body in drag (disguise), presenting something definitive while constantly changing from within. Commissioned by Stichting NDSM-werf
PolyLester - NDSM Giants

A trio of eight-metre-high concrete sculptures designed by Gabriel Lester (PolyLester) have been installed around two 3x3 basketball courts since this year. The giant basketball players, captured in motion, present an intriguing interplay between stillness and dynamism, and between figuration and abstraction, viewed from different perspectives. With the installation of NDSM Giants alongside the 3x3 Legacy Courts, PolyLester’s design is now complete. Since 2024, these colourful basketball courts have given the shipyard a strong and distinctive identity. PolyLester’s graphic design, with its bright orange and blue lines, echoes the lines and forms of the surrounding buildings. With the arrival of NDSM Giants, the site is evolving further into a vibrant meeting place for young people, local residents and visitors to the shipyard. Commissioned by Stichting NDSM-werf

Lily van der Stokker’s light-green text statement Schattige babyvoetjes connects this historic heritage site, once a place of heavy labour and predominantly male work, with themes of the private sphere, parenthood and gender. “I put the domestic on a pedestal,” says Van der Stokker. The words, drawn from the language of parenthood, act as a subtle cultural provocation in an environment dominated by graffiti and monumental maritime heritage. commissioned by Stichting NDSM-werf
Henk Schut - IN TUNE

The sound installation IN TUNE consists of a three-metre-high bronze tuning fork and three horns that project sound from the slipway in different directions. At five-minute intervals, the tuning fork repeatedly retunes its surroundings. As the sound interacts with the water and concrete of the slipway, different tones are produced. The entire site thus becomes an acoustic musical instrument. Just as tuning a musical instrument requires intense listening and observation, we too are invited to keep listening and to tune ourselves as human beings to our surroundings. The installation is active from 12.00 to 17.00, at five-minute intervals. Commissioned by Stichting NDSM-werf
Bart Eysink Smeets - Picasso + Forever Gift

In Bart Eysink Smeets’ playful car installations, parked at various locations around NDSM, the car takes centre stage as a symbol of how we relate to space, movement and use. In Picasso (2019), a Citroën Xsara Picasso balances on a boulder that is millions of years old at the water’s edge. The result is a disorientating image that plays with weight, time and context. Forever Gift (2025) is a gift that can never be opened. The promise of a present can therefore never turn into disappointment; as long as it remains unopened, the gift can be nothing and everything at once, a nod to Schrödinger’s cat, according to Eysink Smeets. commissioned by Stichting NDSM-werf
Studio Ossidiana - NDSM Lusthof

Studio Ossidiana explores questions of private and public space, and who has the right and access to greenery and exclusive forms of nature in today’s city. Like the Lusthoven, pleasure gardens of the past, NDSM Lusthof is enclosed, but here by a playfully designed, brightly coloured fence with viewing openings. It is an architectural garden designed for people, plants and animals. The fence creates curiosity while enclosing the garden, allowing the plants to grow as well as possible. Along the edges and partly within the garden, visitors can relax on colourful, circular cast platforms made partly from shells. The garden is maintained with the help of volunteers.
