Elise Coleman Muehlhausen

E Coleman Muehlhausen is the fall 2023 artist in residence at Stichting la Jetée at the Cabin in M6, NDSM Loods. ECM is an American multimedia artist currently based in Amsterdam after a successful career as a retail product designer. ECM’s method is complex, requiring multiple phases at once: reading, observing, cataloging, and building concepts based on what can be found in the local environs. Coleman Muehlhausen enjoys experimenting with a variety of materials and has a daily practice of collecting things that inspire and intrigue CM such as wild plants, lost items, shells, and stones. ECM hand builds sculptural objects as a way to connect to a place. As someone who has moved frequently, this is E’s approach to gaining a deep understanding of where ECM is. As an artist, Coleman’s goal is to play with old methods in order to materialize fresh ideas that generate conversation and debate and ultimately to collapse time and history.
